About Us
Founded in 2015, Summer Swim Academy (SSA) has grown into a trusted provider of private backyard swimming lessons across the GTA over the last decade.
What began as a university feasibility study idea, quickly turned into a thriving business dedicated to teaching children the essential life skill of swimming. SSA follows the Red Cross Swim Kids program, offering private 1:1 lessons with fully certified, experienced and insured swim instructors. Over the last decade, SSA has expanded to employ up to 15 instructors each summer, serving more than 500 families while maintaining a strong focus on safety, confidence and fun in the water. SSA has even been featured as a published case study at the Ivey School of Business, inspiring future entrepreneurs worldwide.
Meet the Founder, Marlee Armour
An entrepreneurial business leader, founder, and post-secondary educator with over a decade of experience building and scaling high-growth ventures. Marlee combines real-world entrepreneurial success with advanced academic expertise in business, entrepreneurship, and innovation, and is passionate about empowering others through teaching, mentorship, and leadership.
A sought-after guest and keynote speaker, Marlee has also served as a judge and mentor for various business and entrepreneurship competitions. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Western University and a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship from Saint Mary’s University.
With over 15 years of experience as a lifeguard/swim instructor and more than 10 years leading SSA, Marlee has grown the organization into a leading in home swim school across Ontario. SSA is recognized for its strong operational model, top-tier instructors, and commitment to water safety.
